Radiography

We take x-rays of your teeth as often as necessary to properly diagnose any potential problems. X-rays are one of the best tools to detect cavities while they are still small and easily treated. We follow the American Dental Association’s recommendations for routine x-rays — at a minimum, we take x-rays of your posterior (called a “bitewing”) once a year. We may have to take other x-rays to better examine any areas of suspicion. Certain patients may require x-rays more frequently due to past or potential dental problems, or may have x-rays done more frequently by request.

We use a digital x-ray machine, because it allows us to make excellent diagnostic images while exposing you to a the minimum possible amount of radiation. The specific types of x-rays that we commonly take are called bitewingsperiapical (PA)full mouth series and panoramic.
